I had a similar one that has degraded over the years. I have also tried other types of under-kote protection. The inner padding material has a similar feel to those interlocking EVA floor mats used in martial arts. The outer fabric layer is comfortable to the skin. This protector offers an excellent amount of protection, especially if you are motodachi for beginners who are still learning how to hit kote properly.
